The following headings require some explanations, and they are:

County & Address: Using this address, without specific street numbers and adding the words "County
Courthouse," gets your letter to the proper records location.

Date Formed: Sometimes, there are two dates listed. The first one is the date the parent county was formed.
The second (in parenthesis) is the date the current county was formed. If there is only one date, it is when the
current county was formed.

Parent Counties: These are the names of the counties from which the current county was either formed or for
which it was originally known. "Unorganized" is sections of land not belonging to a county at the time. If
followed by county names in parenthesis, then portions of the parent county were placed within the counties
listed. You may find data concerning your ancestor in these counties. A county with an asterisk (*) is another
resource where you might find information concerning the listed county.

Birth, Marriage & Death: The dates listed in this column are the first available dates for these records within
the county, listed respectively. It's important to note that only about 50% of the births and deaths were
registered between 1880 and 1921, so don't get discouraged if no record exists.

Land, Probate & Court: The dates listed here are the first available dates for these records within the county,
listed respectively.
